When Brad Plummer and Anne McNamara decided they wanted to open and own a restaurant, they knew there was only one logical choice for “where” — Historic Downtown Sanford. In the year plus that they’ve been open on the west end of downtown, that great choice has been affirmed. Extensive remodeling of the interior of a 100-year-old building has brought a classy gastropub vive to Second Street.
The District: Eatery, Tap & Barrel serves up lunch, dinner, and happy hour with a bar menu six days a week. Chef Chris Mullen works hard to ensure that the each dish is done right, using fresh and when possible locally sourced ingredients. All food is prepared to order.
The dinner menu has quite a few stars. Braised Short Ribs, a killer Pork Chop, fresh Mahi-Mahi, in-house made Gnocchi, and Shrimp and Grits are the stars. The appetizer menu features a warm chicken dip with house-made tortilla chips, and Ahi Tuna Tacos that are amazing.
Locals know to hit the bar for happy hour specials, including some great light fare such as the pound of wings or the mani tacos, to name a few. And always ask about specials. You never know when the prime rib might make an appearance, or the Southwest Chicken Corn Chowder soup.
Closed Sundays, open for lunch and dinner six days a week with happy hour Monday-Thursday 4-7pm, and Saturday 2-5pm. The District will not disappoint.
